After 10-weeks of open discussion about Measure E, three Buellton City Council members — Ed Andrisek, Dale Molesworth and Victoria Pointer — waited until the last possible moment to call a “special” meeting with only 24-hours public notice.
They then put a confusingly similar measure on the ballot even though not one single member of the community supported it and many spoke against it.
The three City Council proponents didn’t even work in favor of their own ballot initiative, which received no endorsements and lost by 76.72%!

MEASURE F: The City Council’s last-minute spoiler measure

WHY NO ON F

THE CITY GROWTH POLICY

  1. F = SHODDY PROCESS

  2. BulletThree City Council members call a “special” meeting with only 24 hours public notice

  3. BulletNot one single member of the community supported Measure F and many spoke against it

  4. BulletThe three City Council sponsors didn’t even work in favor of Measure F

  5. F = TOO SHORT TO BE EFFECTIVE

  6. BulletMeasure F would sunset after just 6 years — a virtually useless time frame given that development projects take at least that long to wend through the planning process

  7. F = SPRAWL

  8. BulletAptly named the City Growth Policy is set to expire just when the City completes a housing study that will fuel pressure for more growth outside the current City boundaries

  9. BulletSuch growth is at odds with Buellton’s General Plan, which doesn’t sunset until 2025 (when Measure E would also sunset)

  10. F = Poison Pill

  11. BulletInstead of giving citizens the opportunity “to review” growth policies as promised by the Measure F ballot argument, F self-destructs after just 6 years.

  12. BulletMeasure F abolishes the right of the people to make growth decisions and reinvests sole authority in the Council to approve development that citizens may not want.
